Digital and Social Media Marketing

This self-paced course developed by the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development (GEC) will help you to market your business on social channels and show you how to effectively reach your audience. You will get an introduction into digital marketing and social media and learn how to use social media. You will also learn about different social media platforms and how your business can be found on Google. It will take you about 90 minutes to complete this course and you will receive a certificate a digital certificate.

Who is this course for?

The course is intended for SME professionals in management positions, and anyone interested in the topic. It has a focus on the Ghanaian market but is still relevant for related markets.

What will you learn?

  • You learn the main concepts of digital and social media marketing
  • You will learn how to explain the value of online media in promoting a business
  • You will learn how to generate leads through online resources appropriate to the business

Help for returnees

The African Development Organisation for Migration (AFDOM) helps people returning to their country. AFDOM runs the Village of Hope centre in Tamale.

It offers various services there:

  • advice for returnees
  • financial help and advice for start-ups
  • temporary accommodation
  • temporary health insurance.

The centre offers courses in the following fields:

  • sustainable agriculture
  • weaving
  • tailoring and dressmaking
  • dying and batik work
  • soap making
  • painting and design
  • welding
  • glass making
  • reading and writing (learning or improving).

The Village of Hope is located in Tamale.
The services and training courses are free of charge.

University: technical training courses

At the Jubilee Technical Training Center (JTTC) at Takoradi Technical University, you can take courses in different technical fields. For example:

  • mechanical engineering
  • electrical engineering
  • process technology.

Short courses last up to 10 days. Longer courses take about 1 year.

Training opportunities for young adults

If you are between 15 and 35 years old, you can take a training course with the Youth Employment Agency (YEP). YEP offers various different courses. For example in:

  • agriculture and forestry
  • health
  • tailoring and dressmaking
  • information technology.

You can find information about the courses on the website. There you can also find out what documents you need for your application, and what the deadlines are.

The Ghanaian Government supports many of YEP’s programmes. Many of the courses are free of charge.

Training opportunities for young adults

You can take a training course with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). YMCA offers training for both women and men, mainly for technical jobs. For example:

  • woodwork
  • construction trade and architectural draughtsmanship
  • electrical engineering.

There are YMCA centres in:

  • Accra
  • Apedwa
  • Takoradi.

The centre in Takoradi is for women. There you can do the following courses:

  • tailoring and dressmaking
  • batik art
  • professional cookery
  • patisserie and confectionery.

The Opportunities Industrialisation Centres (OIC) in Ghana offer training in many different areas: • tailoring and dressmaking

  • carpentry
  • electrical engineering
  • professional cookery
  • commercial jobs
  • graphic design.

The courses last between 3 and 6 months. You can do them at 3 locations:

  • Accra
  • Kumasi
  • Sekondi-Takoradi.
