Training in agriculture

Do you want to become self-employed in agriculture? Or do you already have a farming business that you’d like to expand? Then apply for the “Agriculture and Entrepreneurship” training course!

It’s where you’ll learn business and soft skills.

The training course is mostly intended for young people and women. Its goal is to make more young people and women self-employed within agriculture.

The content of the training course includes:

  • Support with business development
  • Developing and creating products
  • Knowledge in packaging technologies
  • The basics of marketing

This training course is organised by the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training and Reintegration (GGAC) together with the Global Youth Innovation Network.

Worth knowing The training is provided throughout The Gambia at different times and in different places. Many of the training courses are also provided online. Please contact the centre for exact details. The training course lasts between 2 and 5 days. It takes place from June 2023 onwards. English free of charge Young people, women and returnees 18 – 35 Requirements: You’ll need to apply if you’d like to take part. Participants will be selected from these applications.

Scholarship for vocational training

Would you like further training? Are you interested in the following sectors?

  • Mechanics
  • Construction
  • Sanitary facilities
  • Welding
  • Electrical installation

Then technical vocational education and training (TVET) can help you.

You can even apply if you've already taken a training course at a vocational training centre.

A scholarship is available to assist you to take part in TVET in The Gambia. The scholarship also enables you to buy tools to help with starting your own business.

These scholarships are offered by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training and Reintegration (GGAC).

Accommodation, meals and medical support

Have you returned to Gambia and are you looking for accommodation?

The Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training and Reintegration (GGAC) and the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) can offer you free accommodation. 

You can stay for up to 3 days
•    and will be given something to eat, drink and a place to sleep.
•    A doctor can examine you and provide medical care, if required. 

First contact the GGAC and speak to one of the advisers. The GGAC can refer you on to the GRCS depending on your needs.

Reintegration Assistance

Are you looking for a job or thinking of changing jobs?  
Then you are welcome to contact the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training and Reintegration (GGAC)

The GGAC can help you to find a job. It can refer you to employers and advise you on job changes and advanced training.

Would you like to start your own business?  
The GGAC is also happy to give advice about starting a business.

Help with the first steps

The "European Return and Reintegration Network" (ERRIN) makes it easier for returnees to make a new start in their native country. 15 European states have joined forces for this. "Caritas International Belgium" is implementing the programme in Gambia.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) offers support to migrants around the world. In the Gambia, IOM works with the Gambian Government. IOM also works with local organisations.

Opportunities for returnees

The Gambia National Youth Council (NYC) coordinates a range of programmes for young people. Since 2017, NYC has also been working with the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) to support men and women who have returned to the Gambia.

It helps people seeking for example:

  • new opportunities
  • a job
  • training.

NYC has youth centres in:

  • Bansang
  • Pakalinding
  • Basse.
