Health insurance

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is the state-run medical insurance scheme. You can apply for healthcare cover.

If you have health insurance, you can receive certain medical treatments free of charge.

You have to pay a fee once a year for membership in the health insurance scheme. It costs the equivalent of about 10 euros per year.

You are welcome to call NHIS on the phone. The staff will give you more help.

Help for returnees

The African Development Organisation for Migration (AFDOM) helps people returning to their country. AFDOM runs the Village of Hope centre in Tamale.

It offers various services there:

  • advice for returnees
  • financial help and advice for start-ups
  • temporary accommodation
  • temporary health insurance.

The centre offers courses in the following fields:

  • sustainable agriculture
  • weaving
  • tailoring and dressmaking
  • dying and batik work
  • soap making
  • painting and design
  • welding
  • glass making
  • reading and writing (learning or improving).

The Village of Hope is located in Tamale.
The services and training courses are free of charge.
