Exploiting opportunities in Ghana

I'm Kweku and I live in Ghana. After graduating from university, I initially considered emigrating. But with a little help I then actually found a job in Ghana. Now I'm making all sorts of plans for my future here in my homeland.

I didn't have the right contacts in 2017 when I finished my bachelor's degree in Economics and Geography and I was looking to start my career. I attended a job fair, and just by chance I discovered the "Ghanaian-German Advice Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration", in short GCC. This led to me being invited to the Educata Ghana career fair at the end of 2018. This three-day event in Accra brought pupils, students and those already in employment together with private and state-owned companies and educational institutions. I used my interviews there as a chance to speak with various recruitment agencies, and this ultimately led to my job as an administrator at Ghana's Federation of Estate Agents.

Leaving Ghana could perhaps make sense – if you want to get a higher university degree like a master's or a doctorate. But leaving Ghana to look for work? Everyone should consider that very carefully. We really do have all the opportunities right here, you just have to take a closer look. We can help our country progress. And I want to be part of that.

My dream is to found my own company one day and even employ others. Maybe in the music industry, since I am very familiar with the technology. My personal ambition is to find a wife, look for an apartment and start a family.
