Struggling to rebuild his life after returning to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia, Atif found new hope through a Solar Photovoltaic installation training. Today, he has not only regained financial stability but is also contributing to a sustainable future in the country’s growing energy sector.
My name is Atif. I am 35-year-old from Attock, in the province of Punjab. After returning to Pakistan in 2016 from Saudi Arabia, I faced severe challenges. Though I had skills as an electrician, adapting to the local job market was tough—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite trying several jobs based on my friends’ advice, I was struggling financially. I didn’t know what to do next.
One day in 2023, I came across an ad for a Solar PV training programme offered by the Pakistani-German Facilitation and Reintegration Centre (PGFRC) on social media. With solar energy becoming increasingly relevant, I saw an opportunity to build on my existing skills and applied.
Empowering Change Through Skill Development
During the one-month training, I learned how to install solar systems—from basic principles to advanced techniques.
"I was already an electrician, but solar energy was a new field. With growing demand in the market, the timing couldn’t have been better."
Beyond theoretical knowledge, hands-on practical sessions taught me how to install and maintain solar systems in the real world. All participants received essential toolkits, ensuring we could apply our enhanced skills in the field.
From Uncertainty to Financial Independence
Finally, I received start-up support from the PGFRC which enabled me to launch my own solar installation business. What began as a small initiative grew steadily. I now secure projects regularly and have been able to provide for my family.
