An independent tailor shop in Morocco

Said completed his business start-up training.

An independent tailor shop in Morocco

My name is Said and I grew up in the Fès district in Morocco. That's where I learned tailoring. I had the feeling that opportunities would be better elsewhere, so in 2015 I first went to Turkey and then Greece. Eventually I ended up in Germany. At that time I was 30 years old and hoped to find work opportunities in Germany.

In fact I did manage to extend my technical skills at a vocational college there. However, my residence permit expired after almost two years. I had to return to Morocco in 2017. That was difficult at first, but then I found out about the "MoroccanGerman Information Centre for Migration and Vocational Integration" (referred to as EIMA) in Casablanca.

Friends and relatives helped me pluck up the courage and convinced me to go to the centre for advice. That really helped me, because a placement on a training course was arranged for me. There I was able to gain the basic skills needed to start a company. I also learned what to look out for and the mistakes you should avoid. Together with the advisors at EIMA, I have produced a business plan for my own tailor shop that I would like to open soon. But there's more to it than that.

With the help of the centre, I'm also planning to attend a literacy course that will help me manage my business well. I'm very grateful for this support and the new prospects that have opened up for me.

As of 01/2019

The opportunities for advice and assistance described here are offered as part of “Returning to New Opportunities”.
